After you install the browser extension or Outlook add-in, use Ellie's toolbar in the reply box to control how it drafts your reply.
The Ellie toolbar
Open an email and click Reply to use Ellie's toolbar in the compose area.
Tone buttons
Respectful, Casual, Annoyed — choose the tone you want Ellie to use in your reply.
Intent buttons
Interested / Not Interested — tell Ellie whether to engage with the request or decline it.
Options
- Short Reply — by default Ellie writes a thorough reply that addresses every point. Click this if you want something brief instead.
- Additional Context (+) — add one-off context for this reply (for example, "tell them the meeting is confirmed for Thursday at 2pm"). For context that should apply across replies, use your Role or Knowledge Base instead.
- Roles — if you have multiple Roles, select the one to use for this reply.
Generate
- Write — generate a draft in the reply box. Review it, edit it if needed, and send.
Revisions
After Ellie generates a draft, highlight any text and click Revise to rewrite only that section. You can make up to 5 revisions per email.
Tips
- You don't have to use the tone/intent buttons every time — Ellie works without them. They're most useful when you want to signal something specific.
- If you want Ellie to write a certain way every time, set that up in your Role instead of choosing it for each email.
- Use Additional Context for one-off facts ("my flight lands at 6pm"). Use a Role for recurring instructions.
