Stop Ellie creating unwanted drafts

If Ellie is creating drafts for emails you'd rather it left alone — LinkedIn notifications, calendar invites, newsletters, or automated messages — the fix is usually in your auto-categorise settings.

Ellie already ignores no-reply addresses. Emails from addresses containing "noreply", "no-reply", "donotreply", and similar patterns are automatically excluded from drafting. If you're still seeing drafts for those emails, check the sender address — it may be a real person using a similar-looking address.

Option 1: Change the category type

The most targeted fix. Find the category where the unwanted emails are landing and change its type from Reply Required to Informational or Action Required. Ellie will stop drafting for emails in that category.

  1. Go to Categories
  2. Find the category the unwanted emails are landing in
  3. Click the pencil icon to edit
  4. Change the type to Informational or Action Required
  5. Save

Option 2: Tighten your category description

If Ellie is auto-categorising emails into "Reply Required" when it shouldn't, update the description of your Reply Required category to be more explicit about what belongs there.

Instead of "Emails that need a reply" , try something like:

"Emails from real people asking a direct question or requesting information from me. Do not include: automated notifications, newsletters, LinkedIn messages, meeting invites, receipts, or emails where I'm only in the CC field."

The more specific you are about exclusions, the more accurately Ellie auto-categorises.

Option 3: Create a dedicated Informational category

Sometimes the cleanest fix is a new category for the specific email type you want to suppress:

  • Add a new category called something like "LinkedIn notifications" or "Meeting invites"
  • Set the type to Informational
  • Write a description that precisely describes those emails

Ellie will route matching emails here instead of into your Reply Required categories.
